Sometimes Marriage Counseling Raleigh NC can revitalize marriage and bring back that amazing connection you’ve been missing for years!

And sometimes, couples need more than traditional weekly marriage counseling sessions to heal the past wounds. They need a whole day, without kids and phones, focused on just them. They need a marriage retreat to jumpstart their relationship and move from feeling like roommates to feeling like lovemates again! If this sounds like you, I’ve got you covered!

Last week I had a unique opportunity to share my knowledge and expertise on marriage counseling Raleigh NC with a wonderful group of women called “Bloom Wake Forest.” If you have never heard of this community before, you should definitely check it out and even better, join during one of the upcoming events. The group itself is relatively new and has been founded and managed by Jessica McMican, whose warm and energetic presence have made all the Wake Forest NC events an absolute blast.

Because I love experiential approach in my clinical and personal life, I’ve decided to make this presentation less about talking and more about the group and the people who attended. I wanted to give these women an opportunity to be heard, to be seen, and to be connected to each other. We’ve discussed marriage counseling, our addiction to the comfort of knowing, and even scheduling sex, believe it or not!

One thing that stood out for me during the discussion and the activities was the overwhelming feeling of BUSYNESS that EACH participant has been struggling with. Which in turn leads to feeling isolated, unheard, and unseen by spouses, partners, children, bosses, and the overall community.

How does this happen?

These women dedicate themselves to their families, careers, and life passions, but instead of feeling happy and fulfilled, they feel empty and preoccupied with stuff that does NOT matter.

Most women were familiar with the concept of “slowing down”, but only a few have been successful in actually quieting the mind and listening tor their inner voce.

Learning how to actually sit with your emotions without distractions like electronics and kids is VERY VERY hard. And what helps a lot of people is actually removing yourself from your day to day environment and going elsewhere-park, car, or……………………………… a marriage retreat!!!!

That’s right. This week we are finally talking about cool local places in Raleigh, Wake Forest, and the Triangle Area for you to enjoy yourselves and take a time out from everyday chaos. If you are curious to learn about what a more structured marriage retreat with a therapist looks like, check out this video!

The Fearrington Village

The Fearrington Village offers a unique and secluded getaway that has everything you might need for a wonderful marriage retreat. It is located in Chatham County, just 8 short miles south of Chapel Hill in the middle of Pittsoboro. It’s about 40 minutes from where I live in North Raleigh, which is still shorter that the distance I would have driven for the right place.

The Village is situated in a beautiful, lush, natural greenery and has an independent bookstore, garden area, restaurants, shops, spa, walking paths, a seasonal beer garden, belted barnyard (with their signature black and white belted cows-a rare breed of Scottish beef cattle), tennis courts, playgrounds, and the Fearrington House Inn (which offers 32 individually designed guest rooms antiques, luxurious fabrics, fresh flowers and garden views). Plus, the hotel is pet friendly, so you can even bring your beloved furry friends with you if you wish.

How cool is that?

Many people commented on their reviews that the place is absolutely charming and quite, even when one would expect more noise and people walking around. So, it would be a perfect setting for a couple who want to schedule quality conversations and quite time together while being surrounded by this quaint charm of the South!

It is important to notice that The Fearrington Village is perhaps the quietest idea for a marriage retreat in North Carolina and surrounding area, if that is what you are looking for. The other two suggestions for a couples retreat in Raleigh will be more noisy and hectic.

Bonus: if you are interested in exploring similar places for your marriage retreat, you can also check out Ray Family Farms in Lousburg, Grandover Resort in Greensboro, and Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst.

PS: In full disclosure, their yelp reviews for the spa were a bit icky, so I would encourage you to do your homework before deciding on using the service to make sure you get the best experience for your buck!

Umstead Spa

Umstead Spa is a local day spa located in Cary, NC. Most people who live in the area have probably heard about it and maybe even had a chance to feel spoiled once in a while. If not, this is your chance to learn a bit more about the place and see if it would work for your upcoming couples retreat.

According to numerous reviews from google and yelp, Umstead is much more than just a hotel or spa. It is a unique and absolutely stunning opportunity (with its beautiful art and gorgeous architecture) to escape the daily grind and spend time taking care of yourselves, your relationship, and restore your soul!

What does it have?

Well, looks like it has pretty much everything, from your usual manicures, pedicures, facials, massages (and of course, couples massage-wink), to their relaxing pool (with its pristine grounds), hotel (with extremely comfortable beds), gardens, Heron restaurant, private poolside cabanas, and so much more.

They even have afternoon tea in the lounge which would provide a perfect opportunity for couples to have those quality conversation we’ve been talking about:)

Unscripted Hotel

The last, and probably the noisiest idea for the marriage retreat is Unscripted Hotel located in the heart of Durham. While it’s convenient location makes it easy to enjoy walks and local scenery, it also makes this spot to not be one of those super quite and restful staycations we discussed earlier. However, the location does allow for lots of city strolling, people watching, and just enjoying the cool Durham vibe. So, it is really up to you to decide what type of a couples retreat you and your partner desire.

According to the website and their reviews, the hotel beautifully blends timeless mid century design with modern functionality, which makes it look very “Durhamy.” Their rooftop pool/patio offers a one-stop resort like atmosphere with it’s full service restaurant and lounge. Based on looking at the pictures, the decor and ambience look stunning and something I would definitely enjoy. However, if you are looking for a more restful staycation, I recommend you make sure to book your room as far away from the pool (and DJ and live music) as possible.

As I mentioned in my previous blog posts, I would be happy to travel and conduct the therapy intensive in each of these beautiful places, probably with the exception of the Umstead Spa. It looks like you have to purchase treatments over a certain amount of dollars in order to even enter the facility, which is quite disappointing, but understanding.

You could have your all-inclusive marriage retreat-with quality therapy work to give you deeper understanding of your partner and practical tools to feel more emotionally connected WHILE enjoying the setting that you choose!
