Marriage Counseling Intensive – When Counseling Isn’t Working

Sometimes relationship challenges overcome the couple’s coping mechanisms, so many couples decide to seek marriage counseling to save their relationships.

You may be experiencing ongoing arguments, communication problems, lost intimacy, the aftermath of infidelity, issues with kids or in-laws, or constant financial strains. Wake Forest marriage counseling intensive can be a secure place to work on your problems and find a solution to your marriage challenges.

Why Marriage Counseling Intensive?

It sometimes happens that couples counseling doesn’t show much success no matter how committed to therapy you and your partner are. Or you may want to achieve the therapy goals faster. This is when you should consider a marriage counseling intensive.

Many of my clients choose to try couples intensive counseling because they don’t want to wait the whole week for that one-hour session. Some of them keep engaging in their negative cycles between these weekly sessions and feel stuck in unhealthy behavior patterns.

For many couples in crisis, weekly couples counseling with 50-minute sessions can make it challenging to get to the roots of marriage problems. You come in, unpack the issues of the previous week, but then you go home, get back to your negative cycle and experience more conflict. Next week you do it all over again.

Marriage counseling intensives are designed to help couples who feel that traditional weekly counseling sessions don’t get them anywhere and want to try something more intense.

What is a Marriage Counseling Intensive, and How Does It Work?

Marriage counseling intensive programs typically last two to three sessions a week for five to six weeks. Each couples intensive course lasts at least two hours, and it is totally tailored to your relationship needs.

You may want to consider private couples retreat and devote the whole weekend or a few days to working intensely on your relationship. Or we can meet during the week at my Wake Forest office or your home, whatever works better for you and your partner.

Anyway, couples intensive counseling is an excellent way to focus on your feelings and unproductive patterns in your relationship dynamics. Many of my clients are couples who love but don’t like each other anymore. Two- or three-day marriage intensive is an excellent reprieve from your daily life that allows you to focus on each other and learn how to rekindle connection and heal.

Research shows that marriage counseling is most effective when it is intense because it allows you and your partner to disconnect from day-to-day distractions and entirely focus on one another. We will explore skills and learn tools you need to understand the roots of your problems and rekindle connection in your strained relationship.

One-Day Marriage Intensives

You and your partner can choose to try one-day couples intensive and receive two-months’ worth of marriage therapy in just one day. One-day marriage intensive is usually divided into morning and afternoon intensive sessions. We meet for the morning three-hour session, have a one-hour lunch break and meet again for another three-hour chunk in the afternoon.

We also meet for a 75-minute follow up after the intensive. These sessions may be arranged in person or online, whatever works better for you.

Is Marriage Counseling Intensive for Us?

Intensive marriage counseling in Wake Forest is for couples who:

·       Prefer an intensive approach to marriage counseling rather than traditional weekly therapy

·       Cannot afford to leave work or kids for regular weekly sessions

·       Are in transition, whether it is a new job, new house, new baby, etc.

·       Often travel for work.

Marriage intensives are not a good fit for couples engaged in an active and ongoing affair, physical violence and abuse or addiction to something.

What Issues Will We Work on During Our Marriage Intensive?

Wake Forest couples intensives help couples who want to achieve more closeness, more safety and trust, and more vulnerability in relationships. Also, marriage intensive counseling encourages couples to understand their negative cycle and turn towards one another’s emotional bids for connection.

During marriage intensive therapy, you will learn how to communicate better and resolve conflicts and rebuild your relationship with love, respect, and connection. 7
